SERP desk
Keep the evidence, not just the impression
The SERP desk is where you record what a search actually returned: position, title, URL, snippet, intent, format and what was wrong with it — so the judgement survives after the page changes.
What a SERP record holds
- The query, engine, device and location it was run in
- Position, result type, title, URL, display domain and snippet
- Your classification of search intent
- The content format the result uses
- Weakness flags: thin, outdated, off-topic, paywalled, wrong format, no original data
- Whether the result belongs to a competitor
- The date the observation was made
Why record it manually
Automated SERP data needs an appropriately licensed provider, and one may not be connected. In the meantime, a deliberate record of twenty searches you have actually looked at is worth more than a thousand rows nobody has read.
When a provider is connected, the same records are populated automatically and the schema does not change.
Exporting the research
Every SERP record exports to the shared CSV exchange under the rankstack.serp-results schema, with a manifest and a SHA-256 checksum, ready for a spreadsheet or another tool.
